The Araucana, or "Easter Egg" Chicken

This is a must-have for my flock: A chicken that lays blue-green eggs! Aren’t they lovely?

  1. I love the blue egg! We just got some chicks, and one is an Americana (Arucana) so I am psyched to see her lay (in like 4 months). I’ve heard they are sporadic layers though. Is that true?

  3. We live down the street from you in Monrovia. This past summer we recieved 4 baby Araucanias. The post office was a bit anxious when they called us at 7am, to come and pick the box up! Two weeks ago a couple of them started laying, and the eggs are so beautiful!! So far, three of them have laid only green eggs, ranging from a very soft pastel to a somewhat darker, almost pale avocado color. We are hoping for the other one to lay blue eggs!

  4. Hi Beth,

Would love to meet your flock sometime. Next time you pass by my house ring the bell at the gate and say hello!

  5. I live in California and I’m trying to find a breeder here where I may purchase Easter egg chicks. I doubt you sell them and ship them as I know chickens don’t travel well. Please, do you have any suggestions on where I may purchase chickens here. I live in Ventura County.

    Thanks!

  6. You can order them online at McMurray’s Hatchery or sometimes your local feed store will have them in the spring.
